WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS 2023

Every year, on July 30th, the United Nations observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. This global campaign aims to raise awareness about the alarming developments and trends in human trafficking and calls upon governments, law enforcement agencies, public services, and civil society to strengthen prevention efforts, identify and support victims, and end impunity.

What is UN's World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2023? What's the theme?

The theme for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2023 is "Leave No One Behind - Enhancing Protection and Empowering Victims." This theme aligns with the transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It emphasizes the need to address the exploitation of trafficking victims, provide support to survivors, and protect vulnerable groups from falling prey to traffickers. By reinforcing global commitments, especially those mentioned in SDG 5, 8, and 16, we can work towards eliminating human trafficking.

To celebrate this day, what is PACT doing?

PACT recognizes the importance of intersectionality in combating human trafficking. We understand that various factors, such as socio-economic inequalities and discrimination, contribute to the vulnerability of individuals to trafficking. PACT focuses on raising awareness about these issues and their impact on victims, particularly within the hotel, travel, and tourism industry. By shedding light on the statistics and providing insights, PACT strives to educate individuals and organizations about the significance of taking action against trafficking.

Urge people to join The Code

The Code, also known as The Tourism Child-Protection Code of Conduct, is a unique multi-stakeholder initiative by ECPAT International that works towards preventing the sexual exploitation of children within the tourism industry. By signing The Code, companies make a commitment to actively combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children. It provides awareness, tools, and support to the private sector to contribute to the eradication of this heinous crime. We urge businesses and corporations to join The Code and play their part in protecting children from exploitation.

Partners in Protection Program

PACT's Partners in Protection Program plays a crucial role in mitigating the risks associated with human trafficking, a crime that affects millions of youths worldwide. Through corporate partnerships, PACT brings together advocates who share a common goal of ending trafficking. By joining forces with PACT, these partners actively contribute to end child trafficking, becoming part of the PACT family. We encourage organizations and individuals to become a Partner in Protection and work collaboratively to combat human trafficking.
