Carroll Gardens Association

Organization’s website

Carroll Gardens Association (CGA) is a grassroots organization based in the vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood of Carroll Gardens. At CGA, we stand shoulder to shoulder with low-income residents, immigrants, and domestic workers, working in collaboration with our community to secure affordable housing, defend the vital rights of domestic workers, and champion true economic justice. Together, we are forging a future where dignity, opportunity, and community thrive for all. Guided by the belief that those most affected by injustice are the true experts in shaping solutions, CGA centers residents and workers through leadership development programs, worker-led outreach, and peer-to-peer education in all aspects of our organizing work.

CGA has developed over 500 affordable housing units and currently manages 150 rentals (housing nearly 375 low-income residents), with 300 more units in progress in Red Hook—doubling our tenant reach and addressing long-standing housing disinvestment. In 2019, CGA established the Southwest Brooklyn Tenant Union, a tenant-led organization advocating for housing policies that ensure safe, dignified, affordable housing for all people. Through the Carroll Gardens Nanny Association (CGNA), founded in 2018, CGA organizes over 8,000 domestic workers, providing workforce development, legal support, and leadership training. CGNA strengthens solidarity and labor standards by offering job training, resume and interview assistance, contract negotiation guidance, legal aid, digital literacy education, and referrals for housing, food, and ESL classes. Today, CGA continues to champion affordable housing, empower domestic workers through peer-led outreach, and connect residents to vital social services. Our mission is to foster a community where residents and families of all income levels in Brooklyn can live, work, and thrive.
