How can you disrupt child trafficking?
Know the signs of child sex trafficking. As a professional traveler and community member, be aware of your surroundings and note when a child is:
Avoiding eye contact
Easily startled or afraid
Providing scripted responses or not being allowed to speak for themselves
Being yelled at or intimated
Having identifying marks or tattoos on their body as a way for traffickers to control them
Safely report suspicious activities
Never intervene directly!
If you or someone you know is forced, tricked, or pressured to have work or have sex in exchange for something of value (food, shelter, money), help is available at the US National Human Trafficking Hotline:
Call: 1-888-373-7888
Text: HELP to 233733 (BEFREE)
Chat: humantraffickinghotline.org/chat
If you are outside of the US, visit globalmodernslavery.org
At PACT, we look at this month as an opportunity to highlight the importance of partnerships and collaboration in strengthening anti-trafficking efforts. Preventing human trafficking cannot be accomplished alone; rather, we must build partnerships across all sectors of society to improve the lives of those we serve.
