  • UNDETECTED: Sexual Exploitation of Migrant Children during the COVID-19 Pandemic

This report examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on migrant children from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. Specifically, this study seeks to understand whether COVID-19 was a factor in child migration from these countries to the United States and whether it caused an increase in child sexual exploitation and trafficking. The objective was to obtain data that would help inform U.S. policymakers while they implement foreign aid to the regions, particularly as those aid allocations impact child protection strategies.

  • "And Boys Too"

Despite growing awareness of child sex trafficking in the U.S., the commercial sexual exploitation of boys (CSEB) remains largely overlooked. While past studies suggest that boys make up a significant portion of exploited children, they are often misidentified as perpetrators or willing participants rather than victims. ECPAT-USA’s research highlights the urgent need for increased visibility, better data, and more tailored services—especially for gay and transgender boys, who are disproportionately affected. Key recommendations include raising awareness and expanding research to better support exploited boys.
